THROMBOSIS, HEMOSTASIS, AND VASCULAR MEDICINE
Defects of Blood Proteins and Platelets
Thrombosis, hemostasis and vascular medicine is an emerging specialty which represents an integration of clinical and laboratory medicine. Patients with arterial thrombosis include those with coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction, transient ischemic attack, stroke and peripheral arterial thrombosis. Patients with venous thrombosis include those with deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Pregnant patients may experience placental thrombosis as the cause of recurrent miscarriage. A number of defects of blood proteins and platelets may result in either thrombosis:(Thrombophilia) or hemorrhage (Hemorrhagic Diathesis).
