William F. Baker, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.P.
Medical Director and Primary Consultant

Dr. Baker received his M.D. degree from the University of California at Irvine in 1975. He graduated as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, National Medical Honors Society.

Subsequent to graduation, Dr. Baker remained at the University of California, Irvine where he completed a Residency in Internal Medicine. He became Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 1978 and entered private practice in Bakersfield, California.

During his 23 years of clinical practice, Dr. Baker has also maintained an active academic career. He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, the past Chief of Staff and Chief of Medicine at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, the Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and formerly a Director of the Central California Heart Institute. He was appointed a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and, in keeping with his interest in the prevention of cardiovascular disease, received added qualification in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Baker has specialized in the management of patients with Thrombosis, Hemostasis, and Vascular Medicine problems. His first major publication was in 1983, reviewing the problem of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC). He has since authored over 30 journal articles and 4 book chapters.

In 1995, he became Board Certified by the International Board of Thrombosis, Hemostasis and Vascular Medicine and a Fellow in the International Academy of Thrombosis, Hemostasis and Vascular Medicine. He is an Associate Editor of the journal Clinical and Applied Thrombosis and Hemostasis and active participant in the International Academy of Thrombosis, Hemostasis and Vascular Medicine.

He is also a member of the International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis, the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine, California Medical Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.

His primary area of expertise is in the diagnosis and treatment of venous thromboembolism, arterial thrombosis including the prevention and treatment of patients with transient ischemic attack, stroke, coronary artery disease, and major and microvascular thrombosis.

Dr. Baker is the Director of the Thrombosis, Hemostasis and Special Hematology Clinic at the UCLA affiliated hospital Kern Medical Center, a Senior Clinical Consultant for Thombocare Laboratory, and is also available for consultation in his private practice.


Dianne Young, R.N., F.N.P.
Anti-Coagulation Specialist

Dianne Young has an extensive background in clinical nursing, patient evaluation, and patient education. She is specially trained to evaluate and manage patients who are anticoagulated. She utilizes the latest in computer-assisted techniques to follow patients on Coumadin with the CoumaCare program to improve the effectiveness and safety of patient management. Dianne Young also manages a comprehensive program of intervention to reduce the risk of development and progression of atherosclerosis.


William T. Wright, Jr., C.L.S., M.S., A.S.C.P
Coagulation Laboratory Manager

Mr. Wright has over 25 years of experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist and Laboratory Manager. Tests of the coagulation system are complex and costly. As the Manager of the Coagulation Laboratory, Mr. Wright guarantees that the laboratory results meet the highest standards of accuracy. The Laboratory uses state-of-the-art equipment and testing procedures to guarantee excellence in quality control. Mr. Wright has selected only the very best resources, including Thrombocare Laboratory, for the tests not performed at the CALIFORNIA CLINICALTHROMBOSIS CENTER Coagulation Laboratory.
